We travel through Port Wakefield, Snowtown to Port Augusta where we visit the Wadlata Outback Centre. We step back into time and travel through to modern times. Lunch time( own cost). After lunch we travel through the Pichi Richi Pass, Quorn and have a stop at Kanyaka Ruins. Kanyaka Station was established in 1852 by Hugh Proby. There were several other owners before severe droughts resulted in massive losses of sheep and eventually the station was abandoned. Due to its stone construction, many of the buildings survive today as ruins which are well worth a look. Onto Hawker and we take time to look at the Jeff Morgan Gallery. As you walk into the Gallery you will see so many pieces of Jeffs original artwork along with a large array of his prints and view the panoramas which are stunning. We move onto Wilpeana Pound Resort and check in with time to freshen up before dinner. (D) Wilpena Pound Resort Day 2 : Wilpena - Blinman - Wilpena This morning we make our way to Brachina Gorge. Brachina Gorge meanders its way through sharp sawtooth ridges of resistant quartzite. This spectacular gorge was once used as a pass-through where bullock teams pulled their loads. It is now a favourite picnic and camping area called “Brachina”. We take a break at Parrachilna before we continue our journey to Blinman. We follow the Parachilna Gorge as it snakes through the Heysen and ABC ranges seeing spectacular summits and rock formations. We take a break at Blinman (lunch supplied). After lunch we make our way past the Great Wall of China, Stokes & Hucks Lookouts and into Wilpena. After settling into our overnight accommodation at the Wilpena Pound Resort you can catch a mini bus, which takes you part-way into the “pound”. If you want to walk the rest of the way to the Hills Homestead, the original home in the pound (own cost). Another option is to take a flight around the “Pound” (approximately $195 p.p. for 30 minutes ~ own cost ~ longer flights may be available at extra cost. (B L D) Day 3 : Wilpena - Copley- Arkaroola After our breakfast we farewell Wilpena, pack the coach and travel throught to Leigh Creek and have a look at the Arrona Dam Sanctuary. A wonderful natural area in the Northern Flinders Ranges has been brought back to nature. A lot of work has been done to remove the thousands of feral goats, rabbits and foxes along with the erosion scars and the weeds which choke out native vegetation. In their place is the first reintroduced colony of the shy and timid Yellow-footed Rock-wallabies, other animals and birds and a vast range of native plant species. We have time to stop a Copley for lunch (own cost). After lunch we travel out to Arkaroola via Iga Warta and Nepabuna and travel through the scenic route through Italowie Gorge. On arrival we shall allocate the rooms and have time to freshen up before dinner. (B D) Arkaroola Widerness Day 4 : Arkaroola - Arkaroola This morning we take the famous 4WD ridge-top tour, including morning tea, where we see many geological features and stunning scenery from the top of Sillirs lookout with plenty of photo opportunities before returning to the Village for lunch (supplied). This afternoon there is time to put your feet up in the tranquil surroundings or perhaps take one of the short walks on offer. Dinner at the Village is followed by an evening at the Arkaroola planetarium to go stargazing in this unpolluted, dark outback sky. () Day 5 : Arkaroola - Water Holes - Leigh Creek After our breakfast we hop on the 4-wheel drives and take in the Waterholes experience. We marvel at the scenic beauty, timeless geology and even spot Yellow-Footed Rock Wallabies, Ring Necked Parrots, Euros and Wedge-Tailed Eagles to name but a few. We stop at Bolla Bollana Spring and then out to the old Bolla Bollana Copper Smelter with a quick stop at the old Police Station and Post Office ruins. Next is the majestic and mysterious Nooldoonooldoona Waterhole,before traveling back for lunch (supplied). After our thrilling morning tour we farewell Arkaroola, pack the coach and travel along some outback roads back to Leigh Creek with time to freshen up before dinner. (B L D) Leigh Creek Tavern Day 6 : Leigh Creek - Adelaide We pack the coach and make our way back to Adelaide via Orroroo, Jamestown and Clare with comfort stops along the way. Arriving in Adelaide at approx. 5.30 where your car will be waiting to take you home. (B)
