Day 2
: Broken Hill - Silverton - Broken Hill
This morning we travel out to Australia’s hollywood outback town, Silverton. Silverton is an interesting little dot on the NSW map, population of around 40 and is situated 25kms north-west of Broken Hill (any further west and you’d be in South Australia!). The people here are friendly, quirky and are the heart and soul of this living, breathing part of Australia’s history. Touring includes the Mundi Mundi Plains Lookout and the Silverton Gaol and even a gander at the Silverton Hotel time for lunch at Silverton (own cost) before returning to the Broken Hill and making our way to the Sculpture Symposium - The Living Desert (12 beautiful sandstone sculptures situated on one of the highest points of the area). Next, we visit the Silver City Art Centre and Mint, housing original painting by local artist Peter Andrew, Broken Hill mineral display, and the ‘Big Picture’ the world’s largest canvas painting ~ 100m in length and 12m high. Our final stop for the day is the Line of Load Miners Memorial before we return to the motel. (B D)
Day 3
: Broken Hill - Broken Hill
This morning we board the coach and make our way to the Silver City Art Centre and Mint, housing original painting by local artist Peter Andrew, Broken Hill mineral display, and the ‘Big Picture’ the world’s largest canvas painting ~ 100m in length and 12m high. Continuing our days sightseeing we visit the Royal Flying Doctor and learn about the organisation and view the aircraft. Lunch time is upon us in the city centre at own cost. Our next stop of the day is will be to the famous Pro Hart Gallery to view a collection of the late artist’s paintings and sketches. Pro Hart was an artist across many forms, from drawing and sketching to the famed landscapes and narrative paintings of his heyday. We take time to browse awhile and enjoy the passions he loved. Our Last stop of the day is Whites Mineral Art and Mining Museum, here we are given a personal guided tour that shows them the changes that have occurred in mining and mining operations from 1883 to the present day. The dioramas on display give a visual presentation of mining at different points in its history. There are 1500 pieces of mining memorabilia on display (B D)
